Personal Care Assistant (part time)

Position Description: The position of Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is being offered as a part-time position and is compensated by an hourly rate of pay.

 

Minimum eligibility requirements:

 

  1. All staff shall be at least 18 years.

  2. All staff must complete a background check.

  3. Current certified training in standard first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  The first aid and CPR training shall be taught by an instructor certified through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council, American Safety and Health Institute, or Emergency Medical Services.

  4. Prior to beginning employment, each new employee shall present a written medical statement, completed within the prior 12 months by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant, certifying that the employee has no illness or health condition that would pose a health risk to others and that the employee can perform the duties assigned in the job.
     

Essential functions:

 

  1. The PCA reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) or designee.

  2. Is responsible for either the opening or closing of the program daily.

  3. Will conduct selected activities on a regular basis.

  4. Will be responsible for the personal care needs of the participants, including but not limited to feeding, toileting, and dressing.

  5. Focus on service to participants in during dining and promote meal time as an enjoyable activity of each participant’s day.

  6. Is responsible for knowing all DayStay policies, rules and state regulations and will assure that all regulations are enforced.

  7. Will assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the DayStay facility daily.

  8. Monitor all exit doors and alarm systems to assure prompt response.

  9. Maintain confidentiality at all times and treat each participant and caregiver with respect.

  10. Will help assure that the DayStay participants are well cared for and that all comfort needs are met.

  11. Will assume all other duties as designated.

 

 

Professional qualifications:

 

  1. All staff shall be competent, ethical, and qualified for the position held.

  2. All staff must have the ability to relate to people, demonstrate patience, show a positive attitude, have an ability to listen and demonstrate a sense of responsibility to the participants.

  3. Will a professional demeanor and grooming habits that will assure that the personal care, comfort, and safety of each participant is maintained.

 

Physical and sensory requirements:

 

  1. Medium work: ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

  2. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents and staff.

  3. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the community.
